Abraham Wilson has been announced as the only candidate for Postgraduate Officer in a QUB Students’ Union by-election.

The nominations were reopened after former officer Elena Byrne left the role due to personal circumstances.

If Wilson is voted in, it will see the end to the all-female student officer team – which was a notable part of the 2021 SU elections.

Wilson is studying an MSC in Data and Analytics and is an international student.

He said his campaign aims to help close the disconnect between the University and its postgraduate students.

Students will also be given the option to reopen nominations (RON) – which is offered on all voting forms.

The role itself is paid full-time work at the SU, with a salary of £18,000.

Other part-time positions are up for grabs too, including the part-time environment officer and trans officer positions.

QUBSU will be offering voters an opportunity to ask questions to candidates up to 12pm on the October 12.

Voting will open on October 14 at 7am.
