QR Music Interview: The Rubber Plants - A Celebration of 50 Years of Led Zeppelin
The Rubber Plants are a tribute to Led Zeppelin formed in the late 90s. Since then the band has performed numerous gigs across Ireland, the UK & beyond developing their sound, attitude and line-up and becoming renowned as one of the quintessential Led Zeppelin tribute Acts. The band does not seek to imitate the legendary band’s presence or costumes instead, captures the unique energy and aura of Zeppelin by focusing on the Music. In the same way, the Band does not copy Zeppelin step for step – they don’t play Zeppelin note for note.
Part of the joy of live Zeppelin was the variations the band would put on their classic songs. After years together the Rubber Plants effortlessly play off each other to create a Zeppelin show which emulates the classic rockers powerful presence while retaining enough of their own unique identity and sound. The inclusion of a violinist and the different approach to a front man exemplify this. They effortlessly replicate Zeppelin hits such as Black Dog, Whole lotta Love, Kashmir, Stairway to Heaven and many more.
September 7th 2018 will mark 50 years to the date that the four men who would become known as Led Zeppelin first played together as The New Yardbirds. To celebrate this 50 years of Zeppelin, Queen’s Radio has two tickets to give away to The Rubber Plants 50th Anniversary celebration of Led Zeppelin show on September 7th in the Ulster Hall.
