Queen's Radio Days of Christmas, Three Days In...

It’s December so for the second year running that means that our parent society Queen’s Radio is running the 12 Days of Christmas event. We are now a quarter of the way through with a lot more left to show. Already the team has worked together to create a wide variety of content across audio, visual and written mediums.

Day 1 – Christmas Radio Day

Christmas specials, a quintessential feature of the festive season. Whether it be Coronation Street, Doctor Who or Queens Radio, all are equally iconic and widely celebrated. As such we kicked off the 12 days of Christmas with our very own set of specials. I have highlighted some of my favourite specials released.

Unfortunately released after the deadline for Spotty wrapped, Station Manager Orla Dunne and Rebecca ‘always slow’ Donaghy co hosted How’s Your Holidays. This podcast is a fantastic discussion about all things Christmas. Whether they are gushing over Emma Thompson or being confused about Bono thanking god that someone else died instead of you. No part of Christmas is safe from their unique observations. Save it for later below.

Ever festive Head of the Scoop, Clare Dickson, ran a very christmassy Scoop Talks to Students. Clare discovered that for most students, Christmas is about spending time with your family. This video also reveals Mic’s favourite thing about Christmas. Check it out on our socials.

Head of PR Arran Ashfield enjoyed this day the most. He especially enjoyed Oral Dunne’s Main Character Moments and How’s Your Holidays.

Day 2 – Story Time

Why won’t committee leave Mic alone long enough for him to write his list to Santa? What admin stuff needs that much paper? Are Shaun and Jack really tech geniuses?

Deputy Station Manager Rebecca Dobbin Donaghy reads a tale written by Head of Tech Shaun Carlin. This project made by QRTV is the perfect thing to watch by a fireplace with some hot chocolate as you drift to sleep.

It is the current favourite of other committee members Eva Sheils and Rebekah Newnes. If you haven’t had a chance to catch it yet it is embedded below. Let us know if Mic’s Christmas wish or surprise warmed your heart more.

Day 3 – Christmas Around the World

Today was the Scoops Day to lead content. You can see all the other articles in our culture section right now! Instead of summarising these articles which took us from Belfast’s Christmas market to the International Space Station. Our team created some amazing work. Sports Editor Ryan Brolly and Culture Editor Georgia McPoland’s pieces are both fantastic and unique pieces well worth your time.

Christmas around the world was based on the simple ideas that everyone celebrates the holiday season differently. We wanted to highlight some of the most interesting traditions we have come across. If you celebrate Christmas in a way that you think is unique, let us hear about it.

We are only three days in to this incredible undertaking. The members of committee who had yto pick their favourite child were all asked to share the event that they are looking forward to the most.

Arran is ecstatic for the 12 hour Broadcast

Rebekah cannot wait for you all to see Bake Off

Eva is looking forward to seeing you all for our Christmas Movie night and something we can’t talk about just yet.
