QR Film Review: Bill & Ted Face The Music

Bill & Ted Face the Music

Bill & Ted are back again. This time to unite the world through song and to save reality as we know it. No pressure, right “Dude”? The movie begins with a brief recap of the previous two movies and features returning characters such as “Step-mom Missy”. Straight away the movie throws us into the hilarity of their quest to save the world through music. Bill & Ted are performing at a wedding and the only people enjoying the music are their two daughters (Billie and Theo) which is ironic considering their entire mission within the movie.

Billie and Theo are an excellent addition to this movie. They are hilariously goofy, just like their dads and their mission is to help bring a band together to help Bill & Ted be able to come up with the best song ever. This movie has a perfectly cool way of mixing time eras when Billie and Theo are creating their band. They time travel to recruit people such as Jimi Hendrix, Louis Armstrong and Bach to name just a few; characters that you would never expect to see together.

The movie is filled with ridiculous scenarios such as a suicidal robot called “Dennis” who cannot live with himself after laser shooting the wrong people while he is hunting down Bill & Ted. There is also a scene where “Death” himself is playing hop scotch and swing ball by himself in Hell. Only to name a few of the many hilariously random set of events which continue to keep the movie interesting and exciting.

“Sometimes things don’t make sense until the end of the story”. A line ironically placed within this movie as it is so true for the audience members as well, never mind the characters!

‘You have to trust the process’ is something I had to keep saying to myself while watching. Characters would appear in this movie that needed the art of time travel explained to them, even Bill & Ted would admit that things don’t make sense until the end. Having this internal dialogue of confusion added to the humour and overall hilarity of the movie as for the most part, the audience can relate to the confusion.

…That reminds me, If anyone can explain to me the logistics of multiple versions of past and future selves living simultaneously then please, be my guest!

However, the magic of the Bill & Ted movies means that it doesn't have to make perfect sense, it is an enjoyable and lighthearted watch regardless.

In this new and modern take of Bill & Ted, they continue to play on their notoriously known ‘goofy’ characters that only help to make this movie more enjoyable and nostalgic of the 90s - so if that is your thing, this movie will be right up your street!

Despite the humour and the inevitable confusion that comes with any Bill & Ted movie, I was left wondering if behind the fog of comedy, there just might be a deeper message to it all.

In the end, Bill & Ted were able to unite humanity by getting everyone to play the song that will save the world together. Perhaps, that is a deeper message about humanity in general. To all get along, sing from the same page, to stand together and unite then maybe the world would be a better and more peaceful place? Well… For a light hearted comedy, this may be a bit of a reach. However,  it is a nice thought anyway.

Whether you choose to watch this movie to feel nostalgic or just to have a bit of a laugh, it is definitely worth it!
